The new facility begins operations on May 27.
Steven Yiu, the Airport Authority’s Executive Director of Airport Operations, said all 68 self-drop bag counters have a “one-touch” design, allowing passengers to complete the entire process with a single touch combined with facial recognition.
The system also supports a Smartphone Express Bag Drop service and is equipped with 10 smart cameras.
Yiu said the Airport Authority plans to apply for a patent for the design.
The new terminal features two entrances to the security checkpoints.
Tommy Leung, Executive Director of Engineering and Technical Services of the Airport Authority, said Terminal 2 expected to handle around 30,000,000 passengers per year, with space reserved for further expansion to accommodate 20,000,000 more passengers.
Terminal 2 features eight check-in aisles, from P to W, providing a total of 108 counters.
Self-service areas, with smart check-in kiosks, are available at aisles R, S, T, V.
To enhance passenger experience, the terminal includes an ocean-themed LED display, with additional themes such as a sky concept planned.
Transport access has been upgraded, with additional road capacity and improved kerbside layouts aimed at easing congestion.
The automated people mover system has also been expanded to connect T2 passengers to boarding gates in T1.
