Cathay Cargo has introduced an artificial intelligence-powered compliance screening feature to help customers and frontline teams navigate increasingly complex international trade regulations, the company announced in Hong Kong on Monday.
The new digital tool utilizes AI language analysis to automatically interpret cargo descriptions, cross-checking them against regulatory requirements for imports, exports, and transshipments. This approach provides an additional layer of security and reduces the risk of shipment delays compared with traditional keyword-based checks.
While shippers remain responsible for accurate declarations, the AI-assisted feature enhances transparency in shipment handling and enables staff to identify potential regulatory issues before cargo enters the transport network. The system also offers a redesigned user interface, giving frontline teams clearer insights into flagged shipments and required follow-up actions.
According to Cathay Cargo Director Tom Owen, the solution addresses customer demands for certainty amid fast-changing global trade rules. “The AI tool allows our teams and clients to understand compliance requirements early, ensuring safe and responsible cargo operations,” he said.
The launch reflects Cathay Cargo’s broader strategy to strengthen regulatory partnerships and maintain Hong Kong’s position as a leading international air freight hub. The company plans to continue refining the tool through feedback and compliance reviews, aiming to set new standards for efficiency and safety in the air cargo industry.
