More than 100 pupils visited cotton fields on the third day of their exchange and study tour in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
“I didn’t realise that 90 percent of [Chinese] cotton comes from here. I’m surprised. I’m also impressed by Xinjiang’s high productivity and excellent quality of its cotton,” said a form four student surnamed Leung.
Zhao Xin, president of the Shihezi Tourism Association, said this experience allowed Hong Kong students to understand the origins of their clothes.
The group had also visited Xinjiang Radio and Television Station on Saturday, as well as the Tianshan Tianchi, or Heavenly Lake, a national scenic spot.
