Hong Kong, August 2025 — Xiaomi has officially teased its highly anticipated Xiaomi 17 series, set to debut later this month. Company leaders are calling it the most significant leap in the history of the brand’s flagship smartphones.
Xiaomi President Lu Weibing (盧偉冰) revealed on Weibo that the series will include three models — Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max — all powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Supreme Edition platform. He described the Xiaomi 17 as the strongest standard flagship to date, offering comprehensive upgrades without raising prices, while the Pro and Pro Max will push further into the ultra-high-end segment with cutting-edge imaging capabilities.
Chairman and CEO Lei Jun (雷軍) emphasized that the Xiaomi 17 series represents a cross-generational upgrade directly benchmarking Apple’s iPhone. The Pro model will focus on compact yet advanced imaging technology, while the Pro Max is touted as Xiaomi’s most powerful imaging flagship ever. Lei added that Xiaomi began its high-end strategy five years ago, investing more than RMB 100 billion in R&D since then, with plans to double that to RMB 200 billion over the next five years. The Xiaomi 17 lineup is expected to showcase the results of this sustained investment.
According to Lu, Xiaomi’s confidence stems from both conceptual breakthroughs — shifting from spec-driven leadership to prioritizing user experience and deep hardware-software integration — and continuous technological accumulation. He stressed that the Xiaomi 17 series will bring something ‘different’ to the smartphone market and challenge Apple’s dominance head-on.
