HONG KONG — The USC Thornton Chamber Singers performed in Hong Kong for the first time as part of the Hong Kong Inter-School Choral Festival (HKICF), presenting a Guest Choir of the Year concert on May 25, 2026. The ensemble, led by internationally renowned conductor Dr. Cristian Grases, collaborated with local student choirs and offered a repertoire spanning multiple eras and regions.
Organised by the Hong Kong Virtuoso Chorus, the festival aims to provide local schools with international exposure and foster cultural exchange. The ten-day programme included performances at venues such as the Hong Kong Palace Museum and Ocean Park, a choral conducting masterclass, and joint activities with choirs from Diocesan Boys’ School, Diocesan Girls’ School, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The concert featured nine works, including a Cantonese rendition of “Your Name, My Surname” and a finale of “XII,” which combined traditional folk songs from China and the United States. Participants in the HKICF Buddy Programme paired with visiting singers to enhance cross-cultural understanding and build lasting connections.
