Chief Executive John Lee officiated the ceremonies and presented certificates to the participants.
In his address, Lee said he believes the participants’ love for both the country and Hong Kong grew stronger through the rigorous physical training, discipline, and first-hand experience of the PLA soldiers’ dedication.
The chief executive also shared three key expectations for the youth.
“First, uphold your beliefs and cultivate a deep sense of patriotism – always keep the interests of the country and Hong Kong in your hearts, and remain steadfast guardians of both,” he said.
“Second, work hard to hone your skills and embrace every challenge – continuously build your knowledge and abilities so you can overcome obstacles and become pillars of society.
“Third, be courageous in taking on responsibility and put what you have learnt into practice. Turn your knowledge into action, and contribute your youthful energy to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong as well as the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.”
Lai Ruxin, Political Commissar of the Garrison, also addressed the youth, describing them as the driving force behind the nation’s future.
He expressed hope that they would apply the lessons learnt in camp to their everyday lives and contribute to society.
One secondary student, attending the programme for his second year, shared that the camp deepened his understanding of the Hong Kong Garrison, encouraged him to step out of his comfort zone, and gain first-aid training.
