The authority said late on Tuesday that it has been notified of the incident, which saw the lamp hit a doctor and a healthcare staff while a patient was under examination, by the Department of Health and the manufacturer.
“As a precautionary measure, the Hospital Authority has immediately halted the use of all ceiling-mounted examination lights of the relevant model,” it said.
Temporary replacements from other manufacturers or using different models have been carried out to ensure that clinical services remain unaffected.
The authority urged the manufacturer to complete thorough inspections as soon as possible and to guarantee the safety of the examination lights.
Until then, it said, hospitals and clinics will not use the model.
It stressed that all ceiling-mounted medical equipment in hospitals and clinics undergo regular maintenance and servicing.
The authority will closely monitor the manufacturer to ensure proper inspection, maintenance and servicing of medical equipment, safeguarding the safety of both patients and staff.
