The new route also features the Central Kowloon Bypass that connects Yau Ma Tei and Lam Tin.
The other main non-race route that spans 32 kilometres will continue to be held at its two-tunnel, two-bridge course.
Speaking at a press conference, Peter Lam, chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), noted that the event has become a much-anticipated international sports event that presents cyclists a chance to take in the diverse and unique landscape of the SAR.
“I sincerely invite all of you to actively participate. The routes are available only during the once-a-year Hong Kong Cyclothon,” he told reporters.
“Apart from the wonderful cycling activities, the Cyclothon Carnival at the West Kowloon Cultural District will also feature new highlights.
“There’ll also be bicycle sports products and many exciting programmes at the venue. Whether you are a cycling enthusiast or a family, you can all participate together,” he added.
Lam also noted that the rides’ starting and ending points will be placed at the West Kowloon Cultural District this year.
The area will also host a Cyclothon Carnival, offering a day of music and sporting performances, as well as the Family Fun Ride, CEO Charity ride, and Celebrity Ride.
Registration for the cyclothon will open on Thursday, and a total of 6,500 riders will be able to sign up for the two non-race routes, up from the previous 6,000.
The UCI Class 1.1 Road Race, meanwhile, will feature 17 professional cycling teams from 11 countries to compete on a 100km route, involving around 100 world-class cyclists.
A World University Trophy will also be introduced, welcoming cyclists from the “top 100 global institutions” in Hong Kong, the mainland, and overseas, to join the 56km non-race ride.
During the 56km course, cyclists will be able to ride through six districts in the SAR, including Yau Tsim Mong, Sham Shui Po, Kwai Tsing, Tsuen Wan, Sha Tin, and Kowloon City.
They will pass through five tunnels, including the Cheung Tsing Tunnel, Nam Wan Tunnel, Eagle’s Nest Tunnel, and Sha Tin Heights Tunnel, as well as three bridges, including the Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge, and Stonecutters Bridge.
The 32km-ride, meanwhile, covers Cheung Tsing Tunnel and Nam Wan Tunnel as well as Stonecutters Bridge and Ting Kau Bridge.
