The four-student team ranked sixth among 92 participating countries or regions at the competition held in Uzbekistan.
Gold medallists were Adam Xu from Wah Yan College, Kowloon, and Ivan Mak from La Salle College.
Lo Ting-wai from Tsuen Wan Government Secondary School took silver, while Berton Choy from La Salle College received an honourable mention.
Secretary for Education Christine Choi congratulated the team on Wednesday.
“It is very encouraging to see the remarkable achievements of the Hong Kong team in the IOI to produce Hong Kong’s best performance to date, which is a result of the students’ persistent work,” she said.
Choi said the bureau continues to promote digital education and STEAM learning in schools.
The Blueprint for Digital Education Development in Primary and Secondary Schools, released earlier, aims to cultivate students’ digital literacy and innovative thinking, she added.
The IOI, under Unesco, is the most recognised computer science competition for secondary school students worldwide.
Since 1997, the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Association for Computer Education have jointly organised the Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics to select representatives of the SAR.
