The Hong Kong SAR Government reiterated today that it is making every effort to provide empathetic support to affected residents, on an ongoing basis, following November’s fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po.
It highlighted that it is assisting residents to overcome difficulties and establish long-term homes.
The Government also assured residents that they do not need to worry about losing any belongings left in their flats upon transferring their property titles to the Government.
Deputy Chief Secretary is working with relevant departments to decide on next steps following two rounds of retrieval operations. The aim is to provide residents with opportunities to return to their flats to retrieve outstanding belongings that they will need in their new homes.
In response to residents’ desire to return and collect more belongings, the Government will make concrete arrangements, taking into account the overall condition of the buildings, the safety of residents and staff, and the manpower and logistical support required.
On Friday, the Government announced a two-year standard rental grant for owners of units at Wang Fuk Court. Effective until December 21, 2027, it is designed to help them rebuild long-term homes with greater flexibility.
Regardless of which long-term housing arrangement option the owners have chosen, they will receive a rental grant totalling $300,000. This will cover the two years from December 22 last year to December 21 next year.
If owners choose to join the Special Sales Exercise, their eligibility for the rental grant will only cease three months after the date of the assignment of their new flat. They will not be required to refund any rental grants already disbursed.
