The university was responding to a video clip circulating online that purportedly showed a topless male carrying a female wearing nothing but a bra on the upper part of her body.
The pair were believed to be taking part in some of the orientation activities.
In a statement, the university expressed concern regarding the orientation camp organised by an affiliate of the students’ union that involved “serious mismanagement and inappropriate behaviour” by certain individuals.
“We are also deeply concerned about the unnecessary disturbance experienced by participating students,” the university said.
“A Student Discipline Panel has been established without delay. Meetings with the organisers are being scheduled, and information is also being gathered from participants.
“Depending on the seriousness of the incident, disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with University procedures.”
The university said it has zero tolerance towards any form of improper conduct, adding all students are required to maintain good discipline and treat their peers with respect during orientation and campus activities.
Student organisations hosting orientation camps must also comply with university guidelines and complete training, it said.
The university went on to say that it would not tolerate any behaviour that undermines its reputation.
It also called on students who encounter difficulties during orientation activities to seek help.
