Writing on his Facebook page after watching the highest-grossing film in national box office history, Lee said the movie showcased the rapid advancement of the nation’s animation technology.
Citing a line from the movie, “If there is no path ahead, I will make one”, Lee drew parallels between Ne Zha’s determination and Hong Kong’s approach to tackling long-standing issues.
“This mirrors Hong Kong’s recent vigorous reforms, as we continue to resolve long-standing issues one after another,” he wrote.
“Similarly, my team and I tackle each challenge fearlessly, demonstrating breakthrough thinking.”
The chief executive concluded by expressing optimism about the city’s film industry, citing the success of recent local productions and expressed the hope they would reach more viewers outside Hong Kong.
The sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Ne Zha premiered in Hong Kong last month, topping the local box office for several days.
