Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. has established a 250 million yuan ($35.9 million) joint venture with China National Nuclear Power Co. and other partners to develop electricity generation capabilities, according to corporate database Tianyancha.
The venture, formed this week, is aimed at securing power for Alibaba’s growing artificial intelligence data center operations, though registration documents did not detail the specific scope of activities. Alibaba did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Global technology companies including Meta Platforms Inc. and Microsoft Corp. have engaged nuclear energy partners to ensure clean, reliable power for energy-intensive data centers, while China has largely focused on solar and wind expansion to support its computing sector.
