Hong Kong actor Neo Yau secured 10th place in Red Bull’s “Max vs 100” karting challenge at Silverstone on September 16, holding out until the sixth lap before being overtaken by four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen.
Yau topped his qualifying group with a time of two minutes 29.447 seconds and remained among the leading contenders early in the race. Verstappen, starting last on a grid of 101 participants, completed the challenge in about 35 minutes, overtaking each competitor to win.
The event featured athletes, content creators, and motorsport enthusiasts, with each challenger eliminated once passed by the Dutch driver. Dutch F1 journalist Jacky Martens was the final competitor to be caught before Verstappen claimed victory.
Yau, co-founder of the Hong Kong YouTube channel Trial & Error, had spent six months training for the event, traveling weekly to Shenzhen with racing content creator Llotalk to practice and document their progress. He described receiving the invitation to the challenge as one of the happiest moments of his life, alongside his best actor nomination.
Although acknowledging that Hong Kong has many faster and more experienced drivers, Yau said he aimed to prepare as thoroughly as possible and hoped that his participation would help draw more attention to motorsport in the city.
