While some residents relied on eating ice cream to keep cool, one child told RTHK that she was prepared for the heat.
“I am already sweating from taking a few steps,” she said. “I put on sunglasses as well as a vest.”
Her mother said they braved the heat in order to go watch a movie at the cinema before school resumes tomorrow.
A tourist from Shenzhen said she did not expect Hong Kong to be this hot, but added that the weather was similar across the border.
Meanwhile, the first Amber Heat Stress at Work Warning of the year was also issued, meaning that heat stress in some work environments was high.
It was also the first time it was issued since the Labour Department decided to include nine more monitoring stations at King’s Park starting on April 20. The observatory has one monitoring station there.
A heat warning will take effect if any four of the 10 stations indicate a need for the warning’s issuance.
A street cleaner surnamed Li said one way to prevent heatstroke is to drink more water and take rests whenever necessary.
“I felt hot as it’s over 30 degrees.” she said. “But it’s fine as long as I drink more water. There’s no any other way as it will definitely be hot working in this industry.”
The observatory expects the very hot weather to persist in the next few days, before the SAR sees showers and isolated thunderstorms later this week.
