At least 63 students from 15 local schools clinched top marks in the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme this year, according to results released on Monday.

Victoria Shanghai Academy (VSA), a private school, reported nine perfect scorers to secure its best result on record, up from six it had last year.

While these nine students attained the maximum 45 points, another eight at the school scored 44, elevating its average score to 39 with half of its students attaining 40 points or above.

VSA noted that these results were “record-breaking”, adding that they have also earned the most offers from top global universities.

“These outstanding IB results reflect not only their academic excellence, but also their resilience, self-management, and the way they have supported one another as a community, said the institute’s secondary school principal, Shirla Sum.

Apart from VSA, the semi-private St Paul’s Co-educational College and private independent Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau School recorded six perfect scorers each.

Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) institutions, Diocesan Boys’ School (DBS) and St. Stephen’s College, both celebrated five 45-point achievers this year, with the latter surpassing its 2021 record.

The Canadian International School of Hong Kong reported three top scorers, while Singapore International School and Po Leung Kuk Ngan Po Ling College each reported one perfect scorer.

The English Schools Foundation (ESF), meanwhile, produced the most perfect scorers among its seven secondary schools, with the combined number reaching 27, and an average score of 36.4.

ESF chief executive, Belinda Greer, noted the results were among the top globally.

“This year, our students once again achieved remarkable and impressive results. Their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm towards learning have finally paid off in a glorious manner,” she said.

“I am extremely proud of each and every one of their outstanding achievements.”
