Trump said the United States needed to keep the lead on AI to beat superpower rival China and slammed the boss of Claude-maker Anthropic, who had called for a slowdown.
“The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” Trump said in one of a series of posts on his Truth Social network about the subject.
“AI taking over the World, destroying Humanity, and all other things bad, is a HOAX,” he added.
Trump has pushed back repeatedly in the past week against a tide of warnings from tech bosses on the dangers of AI, saying US regulation would give Beijing the advantage.
“There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China,” Trump added in his post.
“WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so. Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers, BEWARE!”
Trump also attacked Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who on Saturday called on firms to slow down the development of AI and was backed by OpenAI boss Sam Altman and Elon Musk.
“The Trump Administration has stopped AI ‘people’ from doing bad, or potentially bad, ‘things,’ like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a ‘perfect little angel’,” the US president wrote.
Beijing has issued its own warnings about AI.
China’s intelligence chief warned on Sunday that it endangers national security, saying foreign powers could use the technology to threaten social order.
Minister of State Security Chen Yixin wrote in an article that AI was now “the main battleground for global technological competition.”
He singled out Anthropic’s Claude Mythos and OpenAI’s ChatGPT-5.5-Cyber for their advanced hacking capabilities.
Global concerns about a possible AI-driven extinction event have dramatically escalated in recent days.
The UN Security Council will hold a meeting on artificial intelligence next week amid growing international concern, a French diplomatic source said Monday.
United Nations human rights chief Volker Turk called on Monday for countries and AI firms to act urgently to rein in a technology he warned posed “unprecedented risks.” (AFP)
