In a statement, the Hong Kong broadcaster said the agreement focuses on several core areas of cooperation, which include joint productions aimed at showcasing the cultural and tourism highlights of both the SAR and Malaysia, with the goal of encouraging more visitors between the two destinations.
The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and was officiated by RTHK Director of Broadcasting Angelina Kwan and RTM Director-General Ashwad Ismail.
During her visit, Kwan held discussions with Ismail to explore future avenues for collaboration.
Talks covered potential programme exchanges, co-productions and talent development initiatives.
These efforts, the statement said, are expected to strengthen people-to-people ties under the Belt and Road Initiative and deepen cultural connections between Hong Kong and the Asean region.
Kwan emphasised RTHK’s commitment to supporting government efforts in building closer ties with Asean, noting that the public broadcaster is actively expanding cooperation with media organisations across the region.
With the signing of MoUs with broadcasting bodies in both Indonesia and Malaysia, RTHK is bolstering its international communication capabilities.
These agreements are part of a broader strategy to elevate Hong Kong’s media profile and reinforce its cultural presence within the Belt and Road region, Southeast Asia and beyond.
RTHK is currently in discussions with other Asean media organisations with the aim of further deepening regional collaboration.
Looking ahead, RTHK said it would continue to leverage the SAR’s unique position as a bridge between the mainland and the world in telling the stories of the nation and the city while promoting Chinese culture on the global stage.
