  • First-in-market coverage for kidnapping and overseas medical expenses for furkids, ensuring customers greater peace of mind while traveling
  • Prudential remains committed to delivering total insurance solutions, ranging from travel to pet insurance, flexibly addressing the evolving protection needs of its customers

HONG KONG, June 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Prudential General Insurance Hong Kong Limited (“Prudential”) today announced the launch of the upgraded PRUChoice Travel Insurance, which features new protections including coverage for travel interruption due to kidnapping, overseas medical expenses for accompanying furkids, as well as trip cancellation or curtailment resulting from a furkid’s injury or illness. This enhanced plan is designed to offer customers more comprehensive travel protection, enabling them to enjoy every journey with greater peace of mind.

With public enthusiasm for travel on the rise, emerging trends are reshaping the tourism landscape. A recent travel insurance survey commissioned by Prudential[1] revealed that 31% of respondents plan to embark on three or more trips in 2025. Among pet owners, 45% indicated that ensuring proper care for furkids during their travel is a key consideration. The concept of pet-inclusive traveling is growing with the rise of pet-friendly communities. Hotels, airlines, and travel service providers are upgrading amenities and services to accommodate pets, encouraging more “pawrents” to travel with their furkids.

The survey also found that 74% of respondents consider personal safety a major concern when traveling. According to data from Hong Kong government, authorities received 28 requests for assistance from Hong Kong residents detained in Southeast Asian countries[2] between 2023 and January 2025. With growing public awareness around travel safety, comprehensive travel insurance is more essential than ever. Moreover, 43% of respondents identified flight cancellations or delays as one of their top concerns.

Michael Han, General Manager of Prudential General Insurance Hong Kong Limited, said: “Hong Kong people’s enduring passion for travel has fuelled a growing demand for travel insurance. As market needs continue to evolve, we are committed to leading the way with the launch of the upgraded PRUChoice Travel Insurance, offering market-first protections including kidnapping coverage and overseas furkids medical expenses. Our goal is to offer our customers comprehensive travel protection that ensures a hassle-free journey.”

The upgraded PRUChoice Travel Insurance offers comprehensive travel protection for customers

Prudential has introduced the upgraded PRUChoice Travel Insurance, offering equal personal accident coverage for children, adults and seniors. It also provides protection against trip cancellations caused by unforeseen events happening in Hong Kong and trip destination such as severe weather. In addition, the plan incorporates a range of pioneering coverage features designed to meet the diverse protection needs of customers. Key enhancements include:
