Hong Kong’s fifth imported case of the mosquito-borne disease of the year involved a woman, 66, who lives in Kwai Tsing and has underlying illnesses.
Health authorities said she travelled to Foshan in Guangdong Province – where an outbreak has been reported – between July 24 and Tuesday.
She developed fever, rash and joint pain after returning to Hong Kong, and is now in stable condition at Yan Chai Hospital.
Health authorities also reported a probable case involving a woman, 22, who travelled to Madagascar, Mauritius and Malaysia between July 16 and August 4.
She developed fever, headache and multiple joint pain in Madagascar after she was bitten by mosquitoes there.
Her fever had subsided before coming back to the SAR, and she sought treatment at Eastern Hospital the day she returned here due to joint pain. She has since been discharged.
Health officials again reminded the public to take precautionary measures in the rainy season against mosquito-borne diseases.
