The revamped port will officially open and begin 24-hour clearance services at 6.30am on Monday.
Writing on his blog, Chan said the redeveloped port is designed to handle 200,000 passengers a day – five times its previous capacity. He also noted it would take about five minutes for passengers to complete entry and exit procedures, compared with the previous 30 minutes.
On the Apec Finance Ministers’ Meeting that will be held in Hong Kong for the first time in just over a week, Chan said the focus will be on fiscal policies that support livelihoods, financing digital infrastructure, inclusive finance, and youth financial talent exchanges. He said these areas play to Hong Kong’s strengths.
“The hosting of the meeting in Hong Kong highlights the central government’s deep affection for the city and reflects Hong Kong’s status as a vital international financial centre in the region,” he said.
Chan described the meeting as a high profile international event and said visiting finance officials, business leaders and guests will have opportunities to learn about Hong Kong’s developments in innovation and urban planning, and to experience the city’s cultural and artistic vitality.
