“Since the Hong Kong Port Area was established on July 31, we have already done a great deal of work,” Tang told reporters after the opening ceremony of the checkpoint on Sunday.
“We have conducted more than 100 tests, including some stress tests, as well as system and process testing.
“We have confidence that the checkpoint, after its opening at 6.30am tomorrow, will provide a safe, smooth, efficient and pleasant border clearance experience for people.”
Meanwhile, transport minister Mable Chan expressed hope that the new checkpoint would bring convenience for cross-border travellers.
Chan, who inspected the public transport facilities at the port, said multiple tests had been conducted to improve the traffic flow and on-site instructions there.
