China’s securities regulator chief chaired a meeting with investors on Monday and vowed to take all efforts to maintain stable market operations after a rout over the past two weeks roiled the stock market.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) will prevent risks in the capital market, step up supervision and resolutely safeguard open, fair and just market order, commission chairman Wu Qing was cited as saying at the meeting in Beijing, according to an official readout.

The CSRC meeting comes after a stock market rout that wiped out 10 trillion yuan worth of China market capitalisation over the past two weeks.

Mainland markets ended mixed on Monday while Hong Kong surged.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index ended trading for the day higher by 580 points, or 2.4 percent, at 25,143 on turnover of HK$306.41 billion.

The tech index rose 128 points, or 2.8 percent, to 4,752 while the China Enterprises Index gained 245 points, or three percent, to 8,381.

Up north, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ended up 32 points, or 0.85 percent, at 3,796.

The Shenzhen Component Index was 96 points, or 0.71 percent, lower at 13,610 while the ChiNext Index gained 14 points, or 0.42 percent, to 3,443

Wu also vowed to improve the transparency of listed companies and investor protection so that investors can better share the fruits of economic and capital market development, the readout said.

Investors at the meeting suggested stronger counter-cyclical adjustments and measures for guiding more long-term capital into the market, as well as harsher punishments for securities-related crimes, according to the readout.

In Seoul, the Kospi plunged 304 points, or 4.46 percent, to 6,516 amid mounting investor unease over a rally fuelled by highly leveraged bets in chipmakers SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics. (Reuters & Xinhua)
