The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened up 284 points, or 1.11 percent, at 25,779.
The China enterprises index was 107 points, or 1.27 percent, higher at 8,579 while the tech index rose 79 points, or 1.69 percent, to 4,761.
On the mainland, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index opened up 12 points, or 0.33 percent, at 3,907.
The Shenzhen Component Index rose 142 points, or 1.03 percent, to 14,032 while the ChiNext Index was 44 points, or 1.27 percent, higher at 3,517.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei went lower at one stage before lunch after opening up 406 points, or 0.62 percent, at 65,732.
In Seoul, the Kospi opened up 209 points, or 3.23 percent, at 6,680 before surging further to be points, or percent, at one stage before noon to put the benchmark on track for its biggest daily gain in three weeks, underpinned by a sharp rebound in chipmaker stocks.
The regional market gains came after the US Treasury said overnight it would double buyback sizes for long-duration debt as it sought to stem an upward march in yields that sent the 30-year Treasury yield to its highest level since 2007 earlier this week.
The move eased investor nerves over rising borrowing costs, sending the dollar lower and supporting stocks. (Reuters/Xinhua)
