Police said they received a report of the incident at around 9am at a food factory on Dai Fu Street at the Tai Po Industrial Estate.
Officers said they discovered a man who was unconscious with head injuries after falling approximately 1 metre from the truck’s elevated tail lift.
He was rushed to Nethersole Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. .
Preliminary police investigations suggest that the worker, 56, accidentally lost his footing while handling goods.
The Labour Department (LD) said it’s highly concerned about the case, and similar work involving the employer in question has been suspended.
“We commenced an immediate on-site investigation as soon as we were notified of the accident and have issued a suspension notice to the employer concerned, suspending the use of the relevant tail lift,” a spokesman said.
“The employer cannot resume the work process until the LD is satisfied that suitable measures to abate the relevant risks have been taken.”
Officials also reminded employers to take suitable safety measures, including providing an effective fall protective system to employees and ensuring them to take the related fall protective measures; to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
