Ahead of a bilateral meeting Xi said he was willing to promote development of Chinese and Malaysian relations which were entering a “new golden era”.
Anwar said the two nations will collaborate in fields including artificial intelligence.
Xi is in Malaysia as part of a three-nation Southeast Asian trip that includes Vietnam and Cambodia, to consolidate ties with some of the nation’s closest neighbours as trade tensions with the United States escalate.
Earlier on Wednesday, Xi met with Malaysia’s king, Sultan Ibrahim, in a colourful ceremony at the golden-domed Istana palace.
Broadcaster CCTV reported that during the meeting, Xi pointed out that the two countries are good neighbours, friends and partners, who visit each other as often as family members.
He said their relations have gone through a magnificent half-century and are embracing an even brighter future.
The president also expressed readiness to work with the Malaysian king to guide the long-term and steady development of bilateral relations. (Reuters/AFP)
