Apple opened its 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference with the tagline “All systems glow,” unveiling a sweeping overhaul to Siri alongside a series of operating system upgrades. The company emphasized its growing focus on on-device artificial intelligence and deep app integration.
The new Siri, positioned as a full-featured chatbot, can manage complex queries and perform cross-application tasks, combining local AI processing with secure cloud routing. Apple highlighted its Private Cloud Compute framework, assuring users that any cloud-processed data is deleted immediately after use.
iOS 27, macOS 27, and iPadOS 27 feature a “Liquid Glass” visual evolution, performance refinements, and broader generative AI capabilities. Native apps such as Photos and Mail now support AI-driven functions, including text summarization, email drafting, and image editing. Battery efficiency and indexing performance are reportedly improved by up to 30 percent.
In tandem with its AI expansion, Apple confirmed that Intel-based Macs will no longer be supported, and the iPhone 11 series is approaching its lifecycle end. This shift reflects the company’s focus on Apple Silicon devices and a 2.2-billion-strong active user base.
The keynote also carried hints of an executive transition. CEO Tim Cook, featured prominently in a celebrity-filled opening video, is expected to step down this fall, with Senior Vice President John Ternus taking a leading role during the presentation, signaling a planned leadership handover.
