Hong Kong, China, shuttler Lee Cheuk-yiu marched into the semi-finals of the China Masters on Friday, sweeping past India’s Srikanth Kidambi in straight sets.
It took the SAR’s top men’s singles player 39 minutes to get past the former world number one in the quarterfinals, securing a 21-16, 21-16 victory at the Shenzhen Arena.
Lee will next face second-seeded Christo Popov of France for a spot in the final.
Prior to this victory, Lee had failed to make the top four of a major BWF World Tour event for almost 19 months.
Fellow SAR representative Jason Gunawan will be in action shortly before 6pm, taking on the national team’s Weng Hongyang for a place in the semi-finals on the other side of the draw.
