Vancouver police have said that a number of people had been killed and multiple others were injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a Filipino street festival in the western Canadian city.
The driver has been taken into custody, police said late on Saturday in a post on social media platform X. “A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured.”
The city’s mayor Ken Sim said on the same platform that he was shocked by the incident.
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event,” he wrote.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time.”
