The Hang Seng Index fell 12 points, or 0.05 percent, to open at 23,499 points on Wednesday.
But the dip was short-lived with the benchmark index gaining momentum in early trade.
Mainland markets opened higher, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.04 percent to open at 3,363 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.14 percent higher at 10,070 points. (Xinhua)
