HONG KONG, Sept. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The Construction Industry Council (CIC) hosted the Chairman’s Lunch today at CIC–Zero Carbon Park, under the theme “The Four Dimensions of Craftsmanship.” Leaders and representatives from across the construction industry gathered to celebrate the spirit of craftsmanship and exchange insights on industry advancement. At the event, 26 representatives signed the Craftsmanship Charter (The Charter), jointly pledging to embody the four dimensions of craftsmanship, reshaping construction culture, upholding professionalism and striving for excellence.

In recent years, the construction industry has faced a range of challenges, highlighting the need for continuous improvement and transformation to enhance the industry’s image and chart a sustainable path forward. The four dimensions of craftsmanship—Craftsmanship, Craftsman-soul, Craftsman-skills, and Craftsman-action advocated by the CIC, emphasises the spirit of craftsmanship is not merely a slogan, but rather the professional ethos that the industry ought to uphold. It encourages stakeholders to commit to cultivating a culture of excellence, driving innovation, and enhancing quality. It also underscores the importance of upholding integrity, dedication, and driving technologies, with the goal of strengthening social responsibility and building a resilient workforce for the future of the construction industry.

Ir Prof. Thomas HO, Chairman of the CIC, remarked in his address, “We must reform industry malpractices. This Charter represents our collective commitment to the people of Hong Kong: to reshape the culture of our industry by upholding the four core dimensions of Craftsmanship—Craftsmanship, Craftsman-soul, Craftsman-skills, and Craftsman-action. With refined skills, we will deliver projects of the highest quality, safeguard the industry’s reputation, and drive continued progress. I wish that with this Charter, industry practitioners will faithfully honour their pledge and fully integrate the spirit of craftsmanship into every aspect of their daily work.”

The event received enthusiastic participation from across the construction industry, with representatives in attendance from trade associations, contractors, subcontractors, unions and education sector. During the event, speakers delivered remarks and presentations on “How to Foster the Spirit of Craftsmanship.” Following these sharing sessions, the signing ceremony of the Charter was officiated by Ir Prof. Thomas HO, Chairman of the CIC, Ir Simon LIU, President of the Hong Kong Construction Association and Chairperson of the Construction Industry Training Board of the CIC; and Dr. Johnnie Casire CHAN, Chairman of the Building Committee of the Hong Kong Housing Authority. At the ceremony, 26 industry representatives signed the Charter, affirming their commitment to fulfilling their roles and faithfully embodying the spirit of craftsmanship in their professional practice, so as to enhance the construction industry’s recognition and respect across all sectors of society.

The signing of the Charter was also witnessed both in-person and online by 3,100 people, jointly marking this important moment. Meanwhile, full-time students of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction watched the live broadcast at their respective campuses, preparing themselves diligently to embody the craftsmanship spirit in their future while also carrying forward the legacy of this event.
