Wang called for efforts to promote the improvement of governance rules in the face of multiple new challenges in many sectors.
“Countries, whether large or small, strong or weak, developed or developing, are equal members of the international community,” Wang said, calling for more voices to be heard from the Global South.
“The ship of civilisation has entered dangerous waters with hidden reefs and violent storms.
“We should improve governance rules for outer space, polar regions and cyberspace, to build a widely recognised governance framework,” he added.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at a press conference on the white paper titled “More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China’s Principles, Proposals and Actions”.
China champions the building of a community with a shared future for humanity and takes the lead in practising true multilateralism, Wang said.
It has consistently been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, a defender of the international order, and a provider of public goods, while making continued efforts to improve and reform global governance, he added.
He urged efforts to commit firmly to a ceasefire in the Middle East, calling on all parties to work towards laying the foundation of a “sustainable security architecture in the region”.
The white paper aims to build international consensus on effective responses to global challenges, Wang said, and upholding the UN’s authority and status was fundamental to the success of the initiative. (Xinhua/Reuters)
