Her remarks came after the city held various activities, including flag-raising ceremonies and forums, to mark the 10th National Security Education Day on Tuesday.
Speaking in an interview with a local newspaper, Mak said more than 10 themed activities – seminars, exhibitions and carnivals – will be held between May and July to further raise public awareness of national security.
She added that a “National Security Education District Teacher Symposium” will be held across the SAR’s 18 districts next month that will see tutors interact with various social groups such as the elderly, ethnic minorities and youths.
The Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, she said, will keep on promoting the exchanges between SAR youths and their mainland and global peers, with upcoming internship and exchange activities during the 2024-25 academic year covering 48 countries spanning across six continents, 34 nations of which are under the “Belt and Road” regions.
Mak also said the bureau will subsidise 2,000 youths for visits to military facilities, historic sites and museums on the mainland to deepen their understanding of national defence and national security in the second half.
An official commemoration ceremony, meanwhile, will also be held on September 3 at the Memorial Garden of the Hong Kong City Hall to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory Day of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, during which veteran soldiers will share their experiences during that battle.
Photo exhibitions and movie events on the war will also be held, she added.
