Micron Technology Inc. has agreed to acquire a fabrication site in Taiwan from Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. for $1.8 billion to expand its memory chip production capacity, the company said on Saturday.
The U.S. chipmaker will take over the P5 site in Tongluo and plans to ramp up DRAM production in phases after the deal closes in the second quarter of 2026. Micron expects the site to contribute to meaningful DRAM wafer output in the second half of 2027 and will also collaborate with Powerchip on post-wafer assembly processing and support for its legacy DRAM portfolio.
