Kunlun Energy (135.HK) has completed Hong Kong’s first-ever simultaneous LNG bunkering and cargo-handling operation at Modern Terminals in Kwai Tsing, marking a major step forward in the city’s ambition to become a leading regional hub for green marine fuel. The milestone follows the company’s successful debut of offshore LNG bunkering earlier this year, further advancing the development of Hong Kong’s green shipping ecosystem. The operation leveraged the established Shenzhen–Hong Kong supply chain model and upgraded LNG fuel services from anchorage-only operations to regularised terminal-based bunkering. As of mid-November, Kunlun Energy has already completed 12 offshore LNG bunkering operations in Hong Kong, with total annual LNG bunkering expected to exceed 100 vessels.
Representatives from the Transport and Logistics Bureau and other stakeholders attended the ceremony, highlighting the rapid growth of Hong Kong’s green bunkering sector. Kunlun Energy and its parent company reiterated their commitment to supporting Hong Kong’s energy security and deepening cooperation on green shipping. The company said it will continue investing in LNG bunkering capacity and multi-energy integration to help Hong Kong solidify its role as a national-level green marine fuel bunkering and trading centre under the Greater Bay Area and dual-carbon strategies.
