In the Friday operation, officers seized 102 kilogrammes of cannabis buds and three kilogrammes of cocaine with a black market value of HK$23.5 million.
Police were monitoring a shipment containing supposed vacuum cleaners from Canada. When it arrived in Yuen Kong San Tsuen in Kam Tin, officers arrested two men who were opening the package, and found 150 bags of suspected cannabis buds.
Following up the case, police then searched two units at a public housing estate in Sha Tin. There, they arrested another three people and seized three kilogrammes of suspected cocaine.
Four suspects were detained, and one was released on bail. They will appear at Tuen Mun Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Ho Ho-ting, a senior inspector from the narcotics bureau, said a drug syndicate has been dismantled as a result of the operation. He said the force will refer the case to different departments for follow-up actions.
“Some arrestees used their public housing unit for drug trafficking purposes, so we will have another relevant department to follow-up on the case,” he said.
“We also urge logistics service providers and drivers to contact the police, if they receive any suspicious orders, such as providing fake information and the origin of shipping items being unknown,” he added.
