Baidu Launches Ernie X1 and Upgrades Ernie 4.5
Baidu Inc. has introduced its latest artificial intelligence model, Ernie X1, as part of its ongoing competition with emerging AI leaders like DeepSeek. The reasoning-focused model excels in areas such as logical deduction, complex calculations, and daily dialogues, positioning Baidu to reclaim its dominance in China’s AI sector. Additionally, Baidu upgraded its flagship foundation model to Ernie 4.5 and made all tiers of its chatbot services free ahead of schedule.

As competition intensifies from ByteDance, Moonshot AI, and open-source models like Alibaba’s Qwen, Baidu is shifting its strategy. The company announced plans to open-source its Ernie AI models starting June 30, mirroring DeepSeek’s approach.
