Members of the Autonomous Vehicle Applications Promotion Working Group today visited an autonomous vehicle (AV) trial in Tung Chung, North Lantau.
They received a briefing by the pilot proprietor on the trial’s progress before taking the AVs in batches to tour the Tung Chung Town Centre vicinity. Group members were pleased to note the stable, safe and smooth performance of the vehicles throughout the journey.
The Transport Department said that this is the working group’s first on-site visit to an AV trial. It noted that the visit helps members, comprising autonomous driving researchers, information technology professionals, and other experts and stakeholders, engage directly with the pilot proprietor.
The department encourages the proprietor to optimise technologies based on feedback from passengers in test rides. This continuous refinement aims to deliver a convenient travel experience genuinely felt by the public.
