In a statement, the committee said representatives of the Hong Kong, China, contingent attended a flag-raising and team welcome ceremony held by the Asian Games organising committee at Nagoya Port Garden Pier on Thursday.
The delegation joined those from the Chinese mainland and Macao, with the three teams exchanging best wishes and aiming for outstanding achievements at the Games.
Wong Po-kee, chef de mission of the SAR contingent, said the athletes had undertaken long-term, dedicated training and were fully ready for the Games.
“I hope they will enjoy competing and engaging with Asia’s top athletes, give their best performance, and achieve new heights,” he said. “At the same time, I call on everyone to support and stand behind every athlete.”
Yang captained the men’s under-22 team at last year’s National Games and represented the city at the Fiba Asia Cup 2029 pre-qualifiers this year.
Sham will be competing in her third Asian Games after winning gold last year in both the women’s Changquan–Jianshu–Qiangshu combined event at the World Games in Chengdu and the women’s Changquan event at the World Wushu Championships.
Hong Kong, China, is sending a contingent of more than 800 members, including about 580 athletes, to compete in 38 sports at the Games, which will run from September 19 to October 4.
The team will compete in padel, modern pentathlon and wrestling at an Asian Games for the first time.
