The signing of the treaty will provide an important legal foundation for the two countries to maintain their longstanding friendship and firm support for each other, Xi said during talks with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.
For his part, Japarov said the treaty will open up broader prospects for bilateral relations.
Also in Bishkek are the leaders of Russia, Turkey, India and Iran. They are in the Kyrgyz capital for a two-day summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Xi met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO summit.
He said that under his and Putin’s strategic guidance, and through the joint efforts of both sides, the foundation of China-Russia relations will become even stronger.
Xi added that progress would be even steadier and that their future would be even brighter.
The regional bloc – which brings together Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Iran, four central Asian countries and Belarus – is celebrating its 25-year anniversary.
Meanwhile, Xi said that China stands ready to work with Uzbekistan to usher in a new “golden decade” for bilateral relations, as the two sides celebrate the 10th anniversary of the China-Uzbekistan comprehensive strategic partnership.
