According to Cable News, a Citybus passenger in Hong Kong was trapped in his seat for more than 45 minutes on Wednesday morning after being unable to release a faulty seatbelt, prompting a rescue by firefighters.
The incident occurred on a bus traveling from Tseung Kwan O to Cheung Sha Wan, when the male passenger discovered the seatbelt could not be unfastened. The driver and other passengers were unable to help, and Citybus instructed that the belt should not be cut. Around a dozen firefighters eventually freed the man after extended efforts, after which he was sent to hospital feeling unwell.
Citybus apologized to the passenger and said an investigation found that aluminum foil inside the buckle blocked its mechanism. The company reported the incident to police, has intensified safety inspections, and will include seatbelt performance tests in monthly checks.
