The Hang Seng Index rose 116.06 points or 0.5 percent to open at 23,460.31 points on Wednesday.
On the mainland, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index opened 0.13 percent lower at 3,365.67, while the Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.12 percent lower at 10,636.12.
Overnight, global equities eked out some gains with Wall Street largely advancing while European stocks made modest progress as concerns eased over upcoming tariffs from US President Donald Trump. (with additional reporting from Xinhua and AFP)
