The arrest was made after officers received five reports on April 27 about suspected bombs at the main stadium, where Hong Kong singer Nicholas Tse’s concert was under way with more than 40,000 fans in the audience.
So Chi-bing, chief inspector at Kowloon East regional crime unit, said officers conducted thorough searches and found no explosive devices.
“Our investigation has confirmed these five bomb reports were false and that this person acted alone,” he said.
“The motive is believed to be related to a private dispute with others over concert ticket matters.”
So said the suspect works in a clerical role unrelated to the sports venue and the case is believed to be an isolated one.
He urged the public to buy concert tickets only through official channels to avoid risks and potential data leaks.
The suspect, arrested in Kowloon City on Wednesday, will appear at the Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts on Saturday.
