On the third day of his inspection trip to the casino hub, Xia Baolong held a tea gathering with around 10 senior figures, accompanied by Macau Chief Executive Sam Hou-fai.
Former Macau deputy to the National People’s Congress, Ung Si-meng, quoted Xia as saying that the people of Macau should maintain a sense of crisis in the current complex environment.
“He [Xia] specifically mentioned the central government’s emphasis on Macau and its strong support for Macau’s development,” Ung said.
“He noted that Hengqin is Macau’s backyard, being developed for Macau’s growth.”
Liu Chak-wan, former Macau member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, also attended the tea gathering.
“He [Xia] mentioned that we need to remain vigilant in times of peace because developments in other areas could affect our future gaming revenue, so we must stay alert,” Liu said.
“But at the same time, [he said] we need to develop new industries and put forward our views on future developments.”
Xia also visited A-Ma Temple, the Maritime Museum and the two pandas gifted by the central government in Seac Pai Van Park.
