John Lee was hosted by the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Sunday morning, local time.
The two sides discussed deepening economic, trade, investment and cultural cooperation between Hong Kong and Qatar.
“I look forward to the early signing (of the agreement) at a mutually agreeable time to foster more robust bilateral investment flows,” Lee said in a Facebook post, noting that Qatar is Hong Kong’s third-largest trading partner in the Middle East.
The CE also invited his Qatari counterparts to attend the 10th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong this September.
Lee and more than 50 delegates from the SAR and the mainland then attended a market briefing and luncheon hosted by Standard Chartered Bank Qatar.
The SAR leader promoted Hong Kong’s unique advantages as an international financial centre under “one country, two systems.”
