Alipay has officially launched its AI-powered version, named “Abao,” on June 16, offering users a simplified interface that allows thousands of services to be accessed through direct conversational commands. The upgraded app is currently in invitation-only testing and will gradually roll out to all users.
The AI version integrates complex service functions into a single dialogue-based entry point. Users can request tasks such as checking housing fund balances or locating nearby EV charging stations, while financial management remains under user control via a dedicated “Assets” page. Ant Group emphasized that Abao will not move funds without explicit consent, supported by its existing security and risk management systems.
Industry experts view the launch as a milestone in the mobile internet’s shift toward AI-driven services, potentially expanding the accessibility of AI applications to Alipay’s 1 billion user base. Future plans include an open platform for developers and service providers to connect directly to the Abao ecosystem without additional development.
