The Hong Kong Life Sciences Society said it carried out a survey from November last year to March this year involving 330 students and graduates who took courses related to life sciences.
Thirty percent of the respondents were extremely positive about employment prospects in biotechnology, which was the highest proportion for three years.
The society’s executive director Ken Wong said Hong Kong’s efforts to become an international innovation and technology centre provide hope for the sector.
“The government has been putting a lot of efforts in attracting startups, multinational firms, to set up their office or research plant in Hong Kong,” he said.
“Students in life sciences will find that there are really genuine possibilities of finding jobs in Hong Kong, and that’s why they feel like the prospect is a lot more promising than the years before.”
The society said its new job-matching website “Biotech Talent” currently has about 100 job openings in fields such as pharmaceuticals, biomedical instruments and capital investment.
