The Urban Renewal Authority’s managing director on Saturday said it is hoping to begin a study within this year on using legislative means to mandate homeowners to draw up building maintenance plans.
Writing on his blog for the final time before stepping down, Wai Chi-sing said the move aims to encourage homeowners to be more active in keeping buildings in good condition.
He said the authority will also look into ways to extend the service life of buildings using technology.
It will also explore the possibility of setting up a statutory body to coordinate, promote and monitor the feasibility of all matters related to building maintenance, Wai added.
