Gacha was first imported by Penny Shokai, which is now Penny Co., Ltd., from the United States in 1965. As the first company to install Gacha machines in Japan, Penny, currently a subsidiary of TOMY Group, has designated February 17 as “Gacha’s Day,” and this year’s Gacha’s Day marks the 60th anniversary of introducing Gacha to Japan.
Yujin Co., Ltd., the predecessor of T-ARTS, entered the capsule toy market in 1988. The company has developed, produced and sold capsule vending machines called “Gacha machines” as well as capsule toys for over 30 years since then. Its capsule toy brand “Gacha” has enjoyed great popularity. It now releases 40 to 60 new kinds of items a month, totaling to about 600 kinds of items a year.

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the introduction of Gacha to Japan, T-ARTS will launch PERIHAPI!, its first blind box figure series, simultaneously in Japan and overseas. PERIHAPI! owes its name to how users can tear open the perforations on the blind box with a “PERI” sound, to find “HAPI” (happiness) inside. These boxed figures are filled with the passion of their developers.
The company is showcasing Gacha’s appeal in various ways. In 2021, the company launched the TWINCHEES series, a line of Gacha figures and other domestic products in blind pillow packaging, at overseas stores where it is difficult to install Gacha machines, in locations such as North America, Europe and Australia. Japan’s character power and TOMY’s elaborate figure production capabilities have been highly acclaimed worldwide, and as of the end of December 2024, the company had sold a cumulative total of over 8.5 million figures overseas.

The PERIHAPI! series is for figures larger than those of the TWINCHEES, which do not fit into capsules. T-ARTS manufactures them with close attention to details such as clear parts and matte finishes, which are then packaged in perforated blind boxes.
Leveraging its experience in producing TWINCHEES, the company will first launch 2SKU of globally popular character merchandise, in Japan and other Asian countries and regions in August.

HELLO KITTY AND FRIENDS OKIGAECHU is a series of Sanrio characters that “try a little harder.” The figures in this series, which show the playfulness of Hello Kitty and her friends, were created based on its developer’s imagination of what Sanrio characters would look like if they wore sweaters.

In this series, the company sought to create luxury art figures by enlarging and adding transparent details to the popular “Hide & Seek” series, which features characters playing hide-and-seek and is already available as a Gacha product. The characters cover their faces with what suits them in Hide & Seek. In PERIHAPI!, however, the figures are modeled so that their faces can clearly be seen from certain angles in response to requests from fans who want to see the figures’ faces and their expressions.
