Speaking at the launch ceremony of the RTHK programme NSL Chronicles III, Chan said national security is a prerequisite for Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability.
“National security education and patriotic education are inseparable. There are four steps. We have to understand our nation, recognise our nation, love our nation and safeguard national security proactively, so patriotism can be lasting and solid,” he said.
Secretary for Justice Paul Lam said the national security law (NSL) and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance are compatible and complementary.
“The NSL covers four categories of offences which severely endanger national security,” he said. “Meanwhile, the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance covers other offences, especially offences we have seen in recent years that pose risks.”
Secretary for Security Chris Tang added that there has been fake news triggering discontent among the public against the SAR government and the central authorities.
He reminded the public to think carefully and always listen to explanations and clarifications made by officials.
NSL Chronicles III, with a total of seven episodes, will be aired from Monday next week on Radio 1 and RTHK 31, covering the latest implementation of the NSL and key provisions of the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance.
